Annual sales of 3 billion EUROS

BUCHAREST – May 22, 2008
The future of Romanian windows begins at Crowne Plaza!
Today, the Crowne Plaza Complex in Bucharest will host the International Conference on Systems Finishing EURO-window pane 2008.
Every year, this event gathers the representatives of the most important national companies specialized in manufacturing/ selling PVC, aluminium and laminated wood carpentry. The total turnover of the participating companies exceeds 500 million euros.
This event is organized by “Fereastra” magazine in collaboration with the prestigious Institute for Window Technology IFT Rosenheim, Germany (technical partner) and professional organizations in the business of windows (PPTT – representing the Employers and Manufacturers and PGFF – representing the Manufacturers and Installers of windows, curtain-facades) .
Symposia is held in three different sessions and the conference will address different issues with a high degree of technical complexity, the stated aim being that of providing current information on new legislative requirements and innovative products available internationally.
The most interesting topics discussed on this occasion are: the analysis and prospects of the modern carpentry market, energy efficiency of modern buildings, European conformity standards and factory production control. Also, how to optimize the thermal insulation of wood carpentry, changes to European standard of curtain-facades, glass manufacturing assembly models - from prototype to mass production; silicone materials for the execution of curtain walls etc.
Until 2011, we expect annual sales in carpentry to exceed three billion euros!
The prediction for annual sales in carpentry is that annual sales will triple and could even exceed three billion euros. This was the result of a recent study made by Fereastra magazine, on a group of 229 Romanian companies of carpentry manufacturers.
At present, the thermo-pane carpentry in Romania is in a phase of sustained growth. There are 6,000 companies, and over 3,000 considered “windows production” as their main object of activity.  According to the experts, the total turnover exceeds one billion euros per year and for the next 3-4 years, the value can even triple. In 2007, there was an increase of about 30% for the activity of the companies involved in this industry (according to the statements of the managers of the respective companies).
To each pair of PVC windows sold corresponds one made of aluminium & thermo-pane!
The Romanian customers seem to prefer PVC carpentry (60%), while only 30% of  clients opted for aluminium thermo-pane. The rest choose to purchase laminated wood windows and doors and massive wood products.
During 2007, aluminium carpentry recorded an upward trend. This favourable situation was due to the investment in the construction industry – office buildings and commercial areas, where the metal systems represent more than 95%.
PVC carpentry was preferred mainly in the extensive projects of thermal rehabilitation and finally, the report was 2:1 in favour of PVC windows and doors.
Even without relevant market prospects, the market-share for wood carpentry manufacturers reached approx. 3.5-10% of the total turnover. If we consider the total sales summed up a total of one billion euros in 2007, the separate result for laminated wood windows and doors manufacturers is around 100 million euros.
Each citizen of Bucharest spends an average 300 lei for carpentry
The significant growth in carpentry sales was due to the huge projects of thermal rehabilitation of high apartment buildings (10 storeys-high blocks of flats). Because windows are considered goods with high durability (more than 40 years of life expectancy), the beneficiaries tend to choose quality made-windows.
Considered the “building watchmakers”, because of their precision, the specialists in thermo-insulation of the buildings spend significant funds during the years, for research, the increase of the manufacturing capacity and high-performance of their manufactured products. According to the latest study made by “Fereastra” magazine, on different geographical regions of the country, the sales of glazed carpentry depend only by the purchasing capacity of customers. The population is aware of the advantages of such an investment.
Last year, an inhabitant of Bucharest spent for modern carpentry around 300 lei (246 lei + VAT), i.e. 2.5 times more money than another Romanian from the southern region.  In Moldavian counties, the average amount of money spent in purchasing of modern carpentry was approx. 143 lei/ person, i.e. 25% more than the budget allowed by the southern inhabitants (which was of only 108 lei/ person).
